The City of Yarra provides immunisation sessions across the municipality at varying times and locations. The child immunisation provide cover for the following diseases: HIB, hepatitis B, chickenpox, diphtheria, tetanus, whooping cough and polio (Infanrix/IPV), measles, mumps and rubella (MMR), meningococcal C (Neisvac C), pneumococcal (Prevenar). If your child requires immunisation please contact your Maternal and Child Health Nurse or the Health Unit.
Rota virus vaccine (RotaTeq) protects young infants against severe gastroenteritis for the first two years of life.
RotaTeq vaccine is a live oral vaccine recommended to be freely administered to all infants born on or after 1st May 2007. It is a three dose schedule due to be given with the routine 2, 4 and 6 month vaccines.

If you are an adult and require immunisation the following vaccines are freely available: ADT (Adult Diphtheria, Tetanus), MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella). Hepatitis B vaccine is available at a cost of $60, Chickenpox $100 and per course. Immunisations are available at all immunisation sessions. Please contact the Health Unit on 9205 5166 for further information.
Payment must be made prior to attending an immunisation session. Application forms are available from your Maternal & Child Health nurse or from Council's Health Unit. Payment can be made at the cashiers at the Collingwood Town Hall, 140 Hoddle Street, Abbotsford or Richmond Town Hall, 333 Bridge Road, Richmond. Forms are also available at immunisation sessions.
Human Papilloma Virus vaccine (HPV) to protect women against cervical cancer is freely available to schoolgirls in Year 7, 10, 11 and 12 in 2007. Schoolgirls in Year 7, 9 and 10 will be offered this vaccine in 2008.
Young women aged 18 – 26 years are also now able to freely receive this vaccine. The catch-up program for the HPV vaccination ceases in June 2009. It will then be offered routinely to all schoolgirls when they start year 7 at secondary school.
The HPV vaccine is available to women under 27 years at GPs, community health Centres or at City of Yarra community evening immunisation sessions.
