City of Yarra initiative in partnership with 7-Eleven.
The OUT THERE Billboard Art Program is a public art project which brings contemporary art to the street. Dedicated to displaying public art, this billboard site will be activated by a program of works which aims to engage, surprise and intrigue passers by.
Located on Otter Street Collingwood, just at the corner of lively Smith Street, this high profile billboard site will give the local community and visitors to the City of Yarra a chance to engage in contemporary public art as part of their everyday life and artists the opportunity to have their work seen by thousands of people every day.
Watch this space for further information about the future programming of the site.
The City of Yarra wishes to acknowledge 7-Eleven for their generous support of this project.
Billboard 1 – Jesuit Social Services, Artful Dodgers Studio

Untitled by Joe Renouf
The first billboard was commissioned through Jesuit Social Services Artful Dodgers Studio program engaging a young artist to respond to the opportunity to create a work that promotes and reflects positive gender models in the community.
This work is a part of the response generated by the City of Yarra’s Sexual Violence Prevention Task Force mandate; to work towards the prevention of male sexual violence against women by promoting positive gender messages in our community.
The work will be displayed until March 2009.
A Statement from the Artist – Joe Renouf
I found this to be a complex topic that I wanted to ‘break down and simplify’ through imagery.
The thought process centred around the theme of trust, which lead me to decide that a father could be a positive role model and would not want harm inflicted upon his own daughter, which brings up the fact of why would you want to cause harm to someone else’s daughter? At the end of the day, every woman is someone’s daughter.
The image I developed for this project is a simple picture based around this theme of trust; a father and daughter on a clean background enabling the viewer to draw their own conclusions and thoughts of the image.
