Utopian Slumps: Susan Jacobs

For Utopian Slumps in September 2008, Susan is developing a new site responsive installation work which will operate as an extension of ideas concerned with the constructive and obstructive - concepts consistently explored through her practise.

Siting the grid-like structural characteristics of the space (namely the timber rafters) as an initial reference point, the work will grow down to occupy the entirety of the space, embodying notions of cumulative process, habitation, location and diversion, stasis and suspension. The work intends to enact a sense of simultaneity between isolation and involvement.

Pinned

Located in the failing heart of available tourist destinations, the Seychelles archipelago is an old-school paradise with its turquoise waters, 2nd world appetite and underbelly of Catholicism dotted with gri gri, black magic and … well, zombies.

One girl, after sampling a certain few tropical fruits, habitually perceives all this as heaven sent. Hmm ... a blindfold and a pin on the map got her there, but WHAT blindfolded her and pinned her on the map?

Follow Judy as she flies to the Seychelles and runs into Punch in a land of projections, puppetry, harpsichord and BOOBY TRAPS!

PINNED stems from a meeting that took place in 1995 between Fleur (a young white Australian tourist) and a real, breathing, walking Seychellois zombie. And other ... events.

Public Information Session for Personal Trainers in Parks

Council has developed a draft Personal Training Policy to better manage the use of local parks by commercial personal trainers, so that everyone is given fair access to open space and our drought affected parks are protected from overuse.

The proposed policy is currently in a consultation period and Council is keen to hear feedback from fitness trainers, park users and the wider Yarra community before deciding on whether to implement the policy and what fees might be appropriate.
