Cultural Festivals and Events

At Yarra we believe local government has a critical role to play in ensuring that arts and cultural engagement is an everyday experience for all our residents. The Arts and Cultural Plan 2005-2009 outlines our vision to ensure the arts continue to flourish at all levels in our community by involving local people, investing in local practice and supporting a shared sense of place.

A diverse range of festivals, events and activities occur within the City of Yarra. These activities are valued for the contribution they make towards the diversity, liveability and vitality of the local area. The City of Yarra aims to nurture festivals and events that foster access and participation, are sustainable, demonstrate innovation and creativity and promote, as well as engage with, cultural diversity.

Avenues of support available for festivals and events occurring in the City of Yarra may include the Community Grants Program, the subsidised use program for Town Halls and the provision of event related information and advice through the Arts and Cultural Services Unit.
