Environmentally Sustainable Activities & Events

When planning and delivering activities and events, consideration should be given to the resource implications of the event. Organisers are well placed to play a positive role in implementing and encouraging sustainable activities and behaviour. Organisers can save water and reduce the amount of energy and waste at events. They can also play a role in educating the public and raising awareness of sustainability issues.

There are a number of simple measures that can be taken in the planning and implementation of an activity that can reduce its environmental impact or footprint. Great tips on reducing energy use at events, using water sustainably and emissions offsetting are available through this guide and at Sustainability Victoria. These measures are not necessarily more difficult or expensive to undertake. Each activity or event is different and provides different opportunities; to create an event with a positive difference, organisers should be proactive and think creatively about the opportunities their event offers.
