The City of Yarra supports the arts community and recognises that busking contributes to the cultural life of the local area. Council wants to ensure that busking is well managed and has a positive impact on the City of Yarra, in particular to all residents, traders and visitors in and around our local shopping precincts. To achieve this, Council has developed a busking policy.
This busking policy aims to add vitality and character to our local shopping precincts, making them more attractive for people to visit.
A person must not busk on any road, footway or council land unless they have first obtained a permit (as per Council's Roads and Council Land Local Law No. 2 ).
Busking includes singing, juggling, dancing, playing musical equipment and engaging in other performance activities.
Council officers consider each separate application on its merits.
