Pets & Animals in Yarra

Council encourages everyone to be responsible pet owners. This includes registering, microchipping and vaccinating your dog or cat, picking up after your dog, desexing your cat, making sure your pet is well fed and gets regular exercise, having good control of your pet in public, keeping cats in at night and obeying dog on-leash and off-leash areas.

Council adopted a new Domestic Animal Management Plan, People and Their Pets, in February 2009. The local law is currently being revised, with new on and off-lead guidelines for dog owners are expected to come into force in late September 2009.  Full information will be available shortly.

Changes contained in the DAMP, including new on and off-lead guidelines for dog owners and compulsory de-sexing of cats, are expected to come into effect at the end of July.
