Remembrance Day at the Richmond Town Hall

Yarra City Council will mark this year’s Remembrance Day with a wreath laying ceremony on the steps of the Richmond Town Hall.

Beginning at 10.40am on Wednesday 11 November, members of the Yarra community are invited to attend the ceremony, which will include a traditional performance of The Last Post and Reveille.

Yarra Mayor Cr Amanda Stone said the ceremony would be a time to reflect on the sacrifices made by past generations, and to acknowledge those Australians currently serving overseas.

“On such a significant day, our community comes together to recognise and remember those who have given their lives, and given their service, for our country,” Cr Stone said.

“We would like to encourage all members of our community to attend this year’s service – from our elders, who experienced and remember the effects of world wars, through to the youngest members of the Yarra community,” she said.

Members of the Richmond RSL, local MPs, schools and other community groups are expected to join the Mayor, Councillors and Council staff at the ceremony.

The ceremony will be followed by a morning tea inside the town hall, which is located at 333 Bridge Road, Richmond.

This year’s Remembrance Day will mark the 91st anniversary of the end of the First World War.

About 150 people attended last year’s service and morning tea.

Residents seeking more information about the ceremony are encouraged to contact Council’s Community and Civic Events Officer Michael Ward on 9205 5086.
