Over the past few years, Yarra City Council, in conjunction with a Community Reference Group, has carried out an enormous amount of work to restore and enhance the historically significant Fitzroy Town Hall.
On Sunday 18 March, Council will launch a week-long celebration to officially re-open this important community facility to the public. The celebrations begin with a free community day on Sunday 18 March from 11am to 3pm.
As part of the official re-opening festival, Yarra City Council has also organised a range of free events throughout the week for the community to learn about the environment and sustainability.
Mayor of Yarra City Council, Cr Jenny Farrar said Council was committed to providing opportunities for the community to become better informed about solutions to climate change and ways to protect and improve the local environment. Similar events at the Richmond Town Hall have attracted over 200 people.
“These events cover heritage tours and discussions, climate change and action lectures, and environment and sustainability information for the community including the new environment strategy for the City of Yarra,” Cr Farrar said, “I encourage everyone to come along and participate in this great range of environmentally focused events.”
