Yarra City Council will hand out $865K to community groups on Thursday 8 February as part of its Annual Grants Program.
Mayor of Yarra City Council, Cr Jenny Farrar, said she was delighted to see so many innovative and beneficial community projects receive Council funding.
“Council’s Annual Grants Funding Program is one of the largest in the State and provides significant support to our local groups,” she said.
“It is important for Council to support these small and medium sized community groups so they can continue to help provide services and activities to the Yarra community.”
The grant cheques will be presented to each community group at a special ceremony at the Richmond Town Hall on Thursday 8 February from 4.00pm to 6.00pm.
John Harvey from the Ilbijerri Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Theatre Co-Op and Kate Caldecott from OurCommunity (website host for Yarra Giving Centre) will be guest speakers at the ceremony.

In addition to Council’s Annual Grants Program, Yarra also supports community projects through its Emerging Issues Program (EIP), which aims to address social issues that the local community has identified as priorities.
This year Yarra has allocated over $209,000 to seven community projects through the EIP.
An example of one of the projects funded is the North Yarra Community Health for the Yarra Healthy Weight Project.
This project focuses on improving the eating habits and weight status of children in Yarra by addressing issues of poor nutrition, food insecurity, inappropriate weight, and inadequate levels of planned and incidental activity.
