City of Yarra Councillor, Stephen Jolly with the help of Council staff recently held an important meeting, which bought together the five Chinese groups and associations based at Atherton Gardens Fitzroy.
Cr Jolly said the purpose of this initial meeting was to get the groups communicating with each other and working together to resolve any current issues.
"We support all five groups and associations at Atherton Gardens and want to see them working towards a common goal for a strong and positive future," he said.
"I am happy that Council can play a role in helping to bring the Chinese community at Fitzroy closer together.
"One organisation properly audited and with democratic processes will generate more resources for the Chinese community at Fitzroy than numerous small, divided and unaudited organisations."
A second meeting has been arranged for today Monday 14 August at the Fitzroy Town Hall . This meeting will seek to find a way forward with the agreement and support of all five groups. Yarra City Council will support the community in their decision.
