WHEN: Friday 26th January 2007 from 10.00am – 12.30pm

Yarra City Council is inviting all residents to a free event at the Richmond Town Hall to celebrate Australia Day.
As part of this event, Yarra City Council will be announcing this year’s Australia Day award winners including Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year and Community Service of the Year.
Mayor of Yarra City Council, Cr Jenny Farrar, said this event was a great opportunity to acknowledge the residents and community groups that have contributed so much to Yarra throughout the year and a wonderful way to bring the community together and celebrate Australia’s history.
“It is inspiring to see how many dedicated people we have among us in Yarra who volunteer their time to help others,” she said.
“The Australia Day Award nomination process has reminded me just how proud I am to be part of such an involved and enthusiastic community.
“At this year’s Australia Day event we will also be celebrating and welcoming 72 new Australia Citizens who will take part in the Citizenship Ceremony at the Richmond Town Hall.
“This event is also about coming together as community to celebrate our local diversity. We acknowledge the efforts of individuals and community groups that contribute to making Yarra such a wonderful place.”
The celebrations will also include a performance by Jindi Worabak Aboriginal Dancers and an address by the Mayor of Yarra City Council.
All those who attend will be invited to stay after the celebrations to enjoy light refreshments and morning tea.
Councillor Farrar was an Australia Day Young Citizen in 1997 at the Latrobe Shire.
