
The City of Yarra will proudly host the third annual Going Public conference from 4-6 October which, for the first time, will incorporate the National Conference of the Australian Local Government Women's Association, held at The Hilton on the Park.
Going Public is a landmark event designed to highlight the issues that confront women in the public sector and politics in Australia , and to celebrate the achievements of these women.
A highlight of the conference will be the Welcome Reception hosted by Yarra City Council at Richmond Town Hall on the evening of Wednesday 4 October. The reception will feature keynote speakers:
Yarra's Mayor, Cr Jackie Fristacky, said the City of Yarra was delighted to host the conference in recognition of the significant contribution that women in Yarra, and across Australia, make to government at all levels.
"There is enormous support for women in this municipality," she said.
"Three out of the last four Mayors in the City of Yarra have been females and six out of the nine elected Councillors are women. This is the highest proportion of women councillors anywhere in Australia .
"Yarra City Council also has a female CEO, Lydia Wilson, a female City ambassador and three female senior managers.
"Hosting the conference in our City provides a fantastic opportunity to showcase the many things the City of Yarra has to offer," she said.
National President of the ALGWA, Kaele Way JP, said " The conference will feature presentations from some of the most senior and experienced women from local, State and Federal Government as well as leading business women.
" I congratulate the City of Yarra for hosting this year's conference, which celebrates 55 years of the ALGWA and also recognises the achievements of women participating in government across Australia " she said.
The conference is expected to attract up to 200 delegates from the three levels of Government across Australia comprising both elected members and senior management. It provides valuable opportunities for delegates to learn from each others experiences. This is the first time the National Conference has been held in
