Organisations in the City of Yarra are being encouraged to nominate their volunteers for acknowledgement in a celebration of the work and contribution of volunteers in the community.
The National Volunteer Week Celebration will be held on Wednesday 13th May, 5-7pm, at the Fitzroy Town Hall. Nominated volunteers will be presented with a certificate of appreciation. The celebration will include performances from a choir and other musical acts as well as refreshments.
Mayor Cr Amanda Stone said that volunteers make an invaluable contribution to community services and activities throughout the municipality.
“It would be impossible to place a dollar value on the work they do but it represents a significant contribution to the health, wellbeing and development of our community,” Cr Stone said.
“Local volunteers do a wide range of unpaid work from improving the local environment, to helping at risk young people or providing tutoring for recently arrived immigrants,” she said. “The services provided are often unrecognised yet provide vital links in the community network.
“This is an opportunity for volunteers and the terrific work they do for the Yarra community to be recognised,” she said.
Organisations that would like to nominate volunteers should contact Michael McMahon at the Yarra Volunteer Support Program on 9411 4359 or email michaelmcmahon@nych.org.au.
