Gertrude Street, Fitzroy, will be transformed into a free outdoor gallery every night from this Friday until Friday 10 July during the Gertrude Street Projection Festival.
Digital art works including animations, digital stills and videos will be projected onto more than 20 sites such as buildings, pavements and laneways every night between 6pm and midnight.
Yarra City Council has contributed a $10,000 community grant to the Festival, which has been organized by The Gertrude Association.
Mayor Cr Amanda Stone said Council was proud to support the Festival because it would showcase local artists as well as entries from across Australia and as far away as America, France and England.
“Fitzroy is well known as a creative and dynamic hub for the arts,” Cr Stone said.
“Council is committed to supporting opportunities to encounter art and culture as part of the everyday experience in Yarra,” she said.
“We encourage people to enjoy the Gertrude Street Projection Festival by walking or riding along the street at night to view the many different artworks,” she said.
The Festival includes work from more than 70 artists based on the theme of dream.
