Kristy Edmunds and Jonathon Welch will be amongst some of the leading arts practitioners to explore hot topics in the arts, as part of Yarra City Council’s upcoming Room to Create Forum Series.
These free public forums will be presented over the coming months by Council to stimulate public discussion. The first forum will focus on arts in times of economic downturn.
The Room to Create program supports local arts and cultural practice by providing affordable space in Council buildings and creating opportunities for information sharing and skill development.
City of Yarra Mayor, Cr Amanda Stone said the forums involve a broad range of artist and arts professionals who are sure to stimulate discussion and get ideas flowing between participants.
“Yarra is certainly an artistic hub of Melbourne and Council has a proud history of supporting local artists and arts initiatives.
“It is interesting to explore the different way we all relate to arts in our lives and our public spaces and its ability to unify, divide, agitate or delight a community.
“We encourage our community to come along to these free forums, regardless of your artistic background and engage in a discussion about what art means to you.’
The forums will be moderated by Kevin Brennan (Arts Management Advisory Group) and each will have a keynote speaker, followed by a panel discussion and questions from the audience.
