Yarra City Council is deeply concerned for the wellbeing of Felix Hua, who went missing while on a respite care outing at Yarra Bend Park late yesterday morning.
The Council’s CEO Dr Andi Diamond said Felix’s family had been through a terrible ordeal since the 14-year-old and his carer from Southern Cross Care (Vic) were separated yesterday.
“Our hearts go out to Felix’s family, friends and school community – they are living a terrible nightmare,” she said.
Dr Diamond thanked the Victoria Police and the SES who had worked tirelessly throughout the night and today to try to find Felix, who has autism.
“We hold out hope that Felix will be returned safely to his loving family,” she said.
Dr Diamond said the Council would be working with Southern Cross, and will participate fully in any other official investigation, to understand the circumstances which led to Felix being separated from his carer.
“We will be treating this matter with the seriousness it clearly deserves,” she said.
Under its contract with Yarra City Council, Southern Cross Care (Vic) has been providing home and community care services in the municipality for the past 12 months.
