One of Yarra’s neighbourhood houses will be even more environmentally sustainable after receiving grants from the City of Yarra and the State Government.
Holden Street Neighbourhood House yesterday received $30,000 as part of the Victorian Government’s “Modernising Neighbourhood Houses” Program. $23,500 of this will be used for environmental modifications to the building.
Yarra City Council has contributed a further $10,000 and will oversee the project, which will include the installation of insulation, a passive heating system plus an additional water tank and skylight.
Mayor Cr Amanda Stone said Holden Street Neighbourhood House is already a showcase green facility in the community, with solar panels, water tanks and other environmental measures.
“One of the terrific things is that it’s a 100 year old weatherboard, so it’s a great way for people to see the environmentally sustainable measures they can make to their own home, no matter its age or condition,” Cr Stone said.
“Council is delighted to provide further support to Holden Street Neighbourhood House, a facility that is an important meeting place and activity centre in our community,” she said.
