Environmentalist and well-known weather man Rob Gell will be the guest speaker at Yarra City Council’s World Environment Day celebrations on Thursday 4 June, 7pm at the Richmond Town Hall.
All Yarra residents are invited to attend the celebrations, with those who RSVP before Friday 29 May receiving a free sustainability kit including thermometer, shower timer, seed sticks, draft seal and lots more.
The evening will also include information stalls, where residents can find out how to easily reduce their carbon footprint and how to access free energy saving products
Mayor Cr Amanda Stone said last year Council adopted the Yarra Environment Strategy, which included the key theme of working towards local sustainability.
“World Environment Day celebrations are an opportunity to find out how you can live lightly locally,” said Cr Stone.
“By participating in World Environment Day celebrations, residents can be part of the groundswell across Yarra in sustainable living,” she said.
The evening will also include the launch of the new Yarra Environment Awards, which will recognize the municipality’s sustainability trailblazers.
