Yarra Council has prepared a draft Urban Design Framework (UDF) for the precinct surrounding the Collingwood Town Hall and is now looking for community feedback to help shape the future of the area.
Mayor Cr Amanda Stone said the draft UDF aims to guide future development in the area and improve the public spaces.
“Council has prepared this draft UDF to develop a long term vision for the precinct and identify opportunities to enhance its civic and community facilities,” Cr Stone said.
“We want to create a place that has a real civic heart and respects the existing character and heritage of the area, whilst also opening up opportunities for sustainable development and increased community activity.
“Council has significant land holdings around the Town Hall. Much of this land is underdeveloped or vacant, offering considerable potential to enliven the precinct by facilitating appropriate land uses and activities.
“We want to emphasise that the UDF is a draft and we are really keen to work with the community to shape the final UDF.
“We encourage residents, community groups and business owners to let us know what they would like to see in this precinct into the future.”
The UDF addresses the arrangement of buildings, pedestrian spaces, access, and landscape themes in the precinct. A UDF is a strategic planning framework, not a rigid master plan. It sets out to ensure future improvements or developments in the area are in accordance with strategic directions based on the values of the place and the people who use it.
The draft Collingwood Town Hall Precinct UDF will be on public exhibition from 20 April to 15 May.
Council will host an information session on Thursday 7 May at the Collingwood Town Hall, between 4.00pm and 7.00pm.
Councillors and Urban Designers will be on hand to discuss the draft UDF and answer questions from community members.
Copies of the draft UDF will be available from 20 April at the Richmond and Collingwood Town Halls and at Council’s five library branches, as well as online at www.yarracity.vic.gov.au/consultation.
Council will accept written submissions until 15 May and strongly encourages the community to give feedback on the draft UDF in this way.
