Art Auction to Raise Funds for Bushfire Relief

Approximately 80 artworks will be auctioned from 6pm on Thursday 21st May at the Fitzroy Town Hall to raise money for the Gippsland Emergency Relief Fund.

The Gala Art Auction will feature works donated by artists from Gippsland, City of Yarra and across Victoria.

There is no reserve on any of the artworks, which can be viewed at www.artistsunite.com.au.   Auctioneer Warren Joel will auction 60 pieces with another 20 works sold in a silent auction.

The Gala Art Auction is organised by the Gippsland United Artists and supported by the Shire of Wellington and the City of Yarra, which have a city-rural friendship alliance.

Tickets for the Gala Art Auction are $20 each and are available from www.easytix.com.au. All patrons will receive a glass of wine and sample of gourmet foods from Gippsland, as well as multicultural foods made in the City of Yarra.

Mayor Cr Amanda Stone encouraged all members of the community to buy a ticket and bid for one of the many art works.

“The bushfires that ravaged Gippsland recently and in the last five years have presented enormous challenges for Wellington Shire communities and I urge the Yarra community to help them by attending this unique event,” Cr Stone said.

“In addition to supporting the Gala Art Auction, Council donated $25,000 to the bushfire appeals and provided staff to assist the Shire of Wellington and the City of Whittlesea in recovery efforts.”

Further support comes from auction house Leonard Joel, Easytix and many others businesses that have offered their services and goods for free.

“Cultural Catering is one of these local organisations who are keen to help but don’t have a lot of money to donate,” said Cr Stone.

“Instead, they are providing fresh multicultural food prepared by women from local housing estates for the Gala Art Auction.”
