Victoria Street East Precinct Update

The Minister for Planning The Hon. Justin Madden is currently seeking comment on a matter within this precinct.

In early December 2008, the Minister provided Yarra Council with a panel report that recommends changes to the controls in the Yarra Planning Scheme including the size of the Victoria Gardens shopping centre.

The report also recommends Council undertake extensive analysis of traffic management in the area.

Council has until late January 2009 to respond to the Minister.  In mid-January, Council held an information session for local residents about the Victoria Gardens panel report and development which is taking place or is proposed to take place  in the Victoria Street East Precinct. Feedback received at this meeting – and in written submissions made by residents and ratepayers by Tuesday 27 January 2009 – will be incorporated into Council’s response.

Council will decide on its response at a Special Council meeting to be held at the Richmond Town Hall on Wednesday 28 January 2009, at 7.30pm.

In December 2008, the Minister also invited residents who live near a proposed office development in Yarra Gardens East to make submissions to him about that proposal by 12 January 2009.

To keep residents informed about developments in their neighbourhood, Council prepared a Victoria Street East Precinct Information Update which was sent to residents in late December.
