In July/August 2009, Council sought feedback on proposed improvements to the East Richmond Station precinct to make it safer and easier to access.
Council sees a real opportunity to redevelop the precinct into an attractive, pedestrian-friendly and well-connected public area and transport interchange.
The project focuses on the publicly-owned land surrounding the station, including roads, footpaths and laneways, railway ramps and the underpass connecting with Green Street.
Draft Design Plans have been prepared under the State Government’s Creating Better Places program.
The Draft Design Plans include:
The Plan suggests creation of a public plaza, which would use part of the car park north of the station, with about 63 of the 107 car spaces in that area to be retained. It is envisaged that the plaza would act as a passive open space, improving the safety, social interaction and community vitality within the precinct. The plaza would include new paving, seating, a drinking water fountain, pattern paving and a Water Sensitive Urban Design rain garden bed.
The Plan makes specific recommendations about improving entry points and access roads to the station, including:

Feedback received from our community during the recent consultation period and Council Officers’ responses to that feedback will be included in a report to be considered at the Planning, Environment and Infrastructure Committee meeting to be held at the Richmond Town Hall on Tuesday 10 November, at 8pm and at the following Council meeting to be held at the Richmond Town Hall on Tuesday 17 November, from 7pm.
Council will consider the submissions made and make a decision as to whether to formally adopt the Draft Design Plan with or without changes. If the Plan is adopted, design and engineering details would then be prepared based on the Plan. Implementation of the works would depend upon the availability of funds. Funding would be sought from the State Government and under Council’s future capital works program.
