Due to its location, Yarra will always be a highly sought after area and Council has to manage the constant challenge of preserving heritage and neighbourhoods, while accommodating new developments and an increasing population.
All planning for land use and development in Yarra is guided by Council’s Municipal Strategic Statement. This statement is Council’s overarching vision for Yarra and outlines what outcomes Council seeks to achieve through its planning policy.
Within this vision, the Strategic Planning department is responsible for developing our local planning policy through the use of tools such as Structure Plans and Urban Design Frameworks. These tools are developed in consultation with the community, and set specific planning guidelines for sections of the municipality which, once approved by Council and the State Government, are integrated into the Yarra Planning Scheme.
