The planning system acknowledges that sometimes your plans can change, or you can experience delays in the commencement of works, or operation. If you have an existing planning permit, you are obligated to comply with all the conditions. However, if you would like to make some changes, or need more time, you can apply for an amendment or extension to your planning permit.
Planning permits consist of two documents: the permit and the approved plan(s). You can make changes to the permit and/or the plan(s) by lodging an Amendment to a Planning Permit form and additional requirements. There are three different types of amendment, depending on what type of planning permit you have.
In addition, you can also apply to extend the length of a planning permit, by lodging an Extension of Time to a Planning Permit form and additional requirements. Most permits expire two years from the date of issue unless otherwise specified on the permit. Any application to extend the length of a permit must be made before the permit expires.
For more information on amending or extending a permit and how to lodge your application, please refer to the ‘Changing or Extending a Planning Permit’ fact sheet.
