Sustainable Design Assessment in the Planning Process (SDAPP)

New ESD assessmentYarra City Council regards environmental sustainability as a high priority for its built environment.

To meet this objective, it has adopted the following municipal targets:

  • Carbon neutrality by 2020
  • 25% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2012*
  • 25% reduction in water consumption by 2012*
  • 65% recovery rate (by weight) of municipal solid waste for re–use, recycling or energy generation by 2014.

* when compared to 2000/2001

To ensure our municipality achieves its environmental targets, Council introduced new ESD requirements on 1 March 2011. Some planning applications are now required to address 10 Key Sustainable Building Categories.
