Disabled parking permits
There are two categories of disabled parking permits:
- Category 1 enables permit holders to park in a disabled bay for the specified time only, or to park a vehicle in any ordinary parking space for twice the specified time (this permit is white with blue printing).
- Category 2 enables permit holders to park in any ordinary space for twice the specified time (this permit is white with green printing).
Disabled parking permits are valid anywhere in Australia. A driver using the permit must either be the permit holder or someone parking the vehicle for the permit holder in order for them to be dropped off or picked up.
Disabled parking permits are issued free of charge.
Only one disabled parking permit can be issued per person. An organisation may apply for more than one permit. The permit is the property of Council and, if required, must be returned to Council within seven days.
How to apply for a disabled parking permit
To obtain a disabled parking permit you must fill in a Disabled Persons Parking Scheme - Application Form (109kB) and send it to your medical practitioner to be completed.
Your medical practitioner then needs to send the completed application form to Council. If approved, Council will send the permit to you in the mail.
How to renew
Before your disabled parking permit expires, Council will post you a renewal notice. To renew your parking permit ,fill out the renewal notice and send it to your medical practitioner to be signed and returned to council.
