LATMS (part) and 8 Alphington
In 2011, Council conducted a Local Area Traffic Management Scheme (LATMS) in Alphington, in the area bounded by Heidelberg Road to the north, Darebin Creek to the east, the Yarra River to the south and Yarraford Avenue to the west.
Council conducts regular LATMS studies across Yarra to reduce traffic and improve conditions for cyclists and pedestrians.
This study area in Alphington is known as LATMS 8, and also includes part of LATMS 7. The remaining section of LATMS 7 (in between Alphington Street and Panther Place, Fairfield) was the subject of a traffic study in 2008.
Council sought feedback from local residents about how traffic conditions could be improved. This feedback was used to develop a Traffic Management Plan to improve traffic conditions in the area.
A copy of the Traffic Management Plan appears below:

Traffic measures to be implemented include:
• A total of 15 speed humps in Como Street, Lucerne Crescent, St Bernards Road, View Street, Riverview Grove and Coate Avenue.
(Construction of the speed humps was completed in November 2012).
• Improvements to bicycle routes
• Further investigation into 5 minute school drop-off zones in Yarralea Street and Adams Street
• Further investigation into a No Standing zone in Oakes Street.
