Public Space Lighting Policy

Electrician works on a street light in YarraCouncil has a Public Space Lighting Policy that provides guidelines for lighting public spaces like roads and footpaths

The policy, which is updated every couple of years, guides lighting decisions on when and where lighting in Council-managed spaces is needed and if so, what type of lighting should be used.

It should be noted that this policy does not include open space areas such as parks and off-road paths used by cyclists and pedestrians.

The policy aims to deliver the benefits of open space lighting to the community while also minimising the impacts of lighting.
