Celebrate Yarra’s Seniors Festival
1 Oct 2010 Edition
The Victorian Seniors Festival is here again. This year, younger seniors are encouraged to bring their parents along to enjoy a range of local activities.
The 2010 festival provides many opportunities for residents to get out and about.
Residents keen for a challenge can sign up to Council’s first-ever Seniors Fun Run event – Stepping Out in Yarra. Participants aged 50 years and over can run, jog, walk or stroll 4kms or 8kms along the Yarra Boulevard to the finish line. Stepping Out in Yarra will start at Kevin Bartlett Reserve, Burnley Park, on Sunday 31 October, from 9am. To register (for $15 or $10 concession), contact Heather Chapman, from Yarra Leisure, on 9205 5034 or at Heather.Chapman@yarracity.vic.gov.au
Art lovers are encouraged to drop by the Festival Hub at Melbourne Town Hall to view the unique Old Faces in New Places photo exhibition. The photos, taken by Yarra community bus driver Ben Santamaria, feature some of Yarra’s most treasured local identities in some unusual and unexpected locations.
For more information and a full events listing, visit the Things to Do section at www.yarracity.vic.gov.au or call Council on 9205 5555. Festival programs are also available at Coles supermarkets.
