Celebrate International Day of People with Disability with Yarra Council
18 November 2015
City of Yarra Mayor, Cr Roberto Colanzi is encouraging the community to celebrate International Day of People with Disability with a series of events run by Council from 1-10 December.
"I am thrilled we are offering such fabulous events for the community – many of which are free," said the newly-appointed Mayor, who is a strong advocate for the disability sector.
Held every year on 3 December, International Day of People with Disability is a United Nations sanctioned day which aims to increase public awareness and understanding of equality, dignity and fairness for people with disability. It also seeks to celebrate the contribution and achievements of people with disability in the community.
Events on offer include an information session for parents on helping children with learning difficulties, a re-launch of Council's inclusive Striving For Maximum Strength gym program, and a joint Community Forum for people with disability, their families and carers to learn more about the NDIS.
