The Block heads to Richmond in 2011

18 April 2011

Skipping girlChannel Nine’s popular renovation show The Block has started filming its next series in Richmond.

Yarra’s popular shopping strips and iconic scenery will form the backdrop for the first series of The Block to be filmed outside Sydney.

Mayor Alison Clarke said Council was thrilled presenter Scott Cam and his team had chosen Richmond as the setting for the renovation showdown.

“Some Richmond locals have probably been wondering why they’ve seen Scott Cam wandering around their neighbourhood and now they’ll know why,” Cr Clarke said.

“Not only is Richmond a prime spot for real estate, it is also a dream location for renovators with plenty of homemaker and interior design stores just minutes away from where the contestants will be living.

“Hopefully they can find time between the drilling and painting to get out and enjoy Yarra’s excellent shopping and dining strips and perhaps stumble across some of the hidden treasures in our parks and laneways.”

“We also understand that this series will showcase ways renovators can make their homes more environmentally sustainable, so we’re very excited that something filmed in Richmond will promote sustainable design to a huge audience around the country.

The Richmond series of The Block is expected to broadcast on Channel Nine later this year.

In the meantime, Council’s website will be updated in the coming weeks with planning and design information about the properties that will feature in the series.
