When material is not available in the Yarra Libraries collection, the Library may purchase it if this is in accordance with the Collection Development Policy. If not, we will attempt to obtain it from other libraries in Australia through the Inter-Library Loans (ILL) system.
We will endeavor to obtain the material you request, but availability is subject to the lending policies of the library which owns the item. Generally, other public libraries will not lend books published within the last twelve months.
Yarra Libraries are committed to a core service, this does not include a fast track or express service.
All members of the Yarra Library are eligible to use this service to obtain material required.
Members who under the age of 18 will need to have a parental/guardian signature on the ILL request form.
Short-term members are able to request one ILL and interim members need to become full members before requesting any inter-library loans.
Patrons who have overdue or lost inter-library loans on their record, or who have failed to collect previously ordered material, are not permitted to request other Inter-Library Loans until the matter is resolved.
There is a limit of three inter-library loan requests per member at any one time.
There is no charge for items borrowed from Victorian public libraries The library service endeavors, in the first instance, to borrow items from a library that will not charge.
A standard charge of $14.00 (GST inclusive) will apply for any items that incur a direct charge, usually those which are requested from university or special libraries.
You need to indicate on the form if you wish to proceed with the charge or not.
Once the responding library has agreed to supply the item charges will apply even if the item is cancelled or not picked up.
The loan period for inter-library loans is three weeks. In all instances, standard overdue charges will apply.
Inter-library loans need to be returned to any of the Yarra Libraries by the date that appears on the due date receipt. Please ensure that you return the item with the laminated cover and the slip on the front page. Charges for lost /damaged books will apply.
If you require a renewal contact us at least seven days before the item is due back.
Please request your renewal by using our renewal form, or by contacting your local branch.
You may be able to have one three-week renewal, but you will need to contact any branch or go to your online record to check if your renewal has been granted.
Inter-library loans request forms are located at the Circulation Desk of each branch and here in the Collections and Services section of our website.
