Urban design for Best Street
Council is introducing a number of improvements to Best Street in North Fitzroy.
The improvements aim to integrate the street with Council’s new North Fitzroy Community Hub, which will include a library and maternal and child health centre.
The works will begin in early September 2016 and are expected to be completed in December 2016.
During this time the project builders, Buxton Construction, will be performing a range of works, including the upgrade of stormwater drainage; new kerb and channels; asphalt resurfacing of Best Street; realignment of car parking; bluestone paving; soft landscaping; line marking and various other works.
To maintain access to residences and the construction site, the roadworks will be undertaken in several stages. Access to Best Street will be limited at times and entry/exit points will be modified to suit the works as follows:
Works to northern end of Best Street. Entry/exit to Best Street from Alfred Crescent only during this time.
Asphalt resurfacing works. Entry/exit to Best Street from St Georges Road during this time.
Works to the southern end of Best Street. Entry/exit to Best Street from St Georges Road only during this time.
Finishing works around the building site. Full access to Best Street will be returned.
Note: Stage 1 works to Alfred Crescent were completed earlier this year.
Signage and traffic management measures will be in place throughout the works, however motorists and pedestrians are asked to pay particular attention to their surroundings during time as conditions may change from day to day.
Period of works: The Best Street road works will begin on 7 September 2016 and are expected to be completed in late December 2016.
Hours of work: Works will take place from 7am to 6pm Monday to Friday and 9am to 3pm on Saturdays. No works are to occur on Sundays or public holidays.
