Personal Training Permit Application Process

When you are applying for the permit you must produce the following:

• A current Public Liability Insurance Certificate of Currency (min. Australian $10 million, valid for the date of activity, clearly describing the business as personal training activities and any incidental and associated activities directly related to the business).

• A current professional indemnity insurance Certificate of Currency (min. Australian $5 million), valid for the date of activity, clearly describing the business as personal training activities and any incidental and associated activities directly related to the business.

The minimum level of qualifications to be eligible to receive a personal trainers permit include:

• Certificate Four in Fitness or relevant higher degree for example Bachelor of Human Movement or Bachelor of Exercise Science. Any other qualifications identified will be forwarded to Peter Watson, Manager of Leisure Services for approval.
• Fitness Australia or Kinect Registration.
• Level 2 First Aid.
• Current CPR.

A certified copy of all qualifications must be presented with this application and be valid for date of the permit until February 21, 2010.

Council officers will then assess the application based on the following factors:

• The requested location and space required
• The amount of people per session
• The duration and regularity of the proposed activities
• The condition of the requested park or open space prior to the proposed activities
• Required qualifications.

If approved, a permit will be granted in approximately 14 working days.

If further information is required, a Council officer will contact the applicant to discuss what is needed to process the permit.

Once approved, a permit for each designated park will be issued and must be carried at all times whilst personal training in City of Yarra parks.

If the applicant has been given permission to use the requested area, the Council officer will discuss the terms and conditions of the permitted use with the trainer.

Non-compliance with permit conditions may result in a fine and cancellation of the permit.
