In 2009, Council introduced an amendment to its Environment Local Law No.3
that will help to protect Yarra’s significant trees.
Under the local law, a tree is considered significant if it is listed on the City of Yarra Significant Tree Register and/or has a trunk that is 400mm or wider.
The local law requires that a person must not damage, destroy or lop a significant tree without a permit.
However, a permit is not required for cutting, trimming or pruning a significant tree.
