Edinburgh Gardens are the former home of Fitzroy Football Club, where games were played from 1883 on the sports ground now known as W.T Peterson Community Oval. Major facilities within the Gardens include bocce and lawn bowling rinks, tennis courts, basketball half court, playground, community room, skate facility, open and fenced sports fields and pavilions, and infant welfare centre.
Major features include late nineteenth century grandstand, visiting members gate structure (corner Freeman and Brunswick Streets), gates and ticket box structure behind the grandstand, stone drinking fountain, period park light fittings, the missing Queen Victoria statue, rotunda, war memorial, preserved sections of railway line and mature Elm avenues. Edinburgh Gardens has a number of built features, including a disused Council depot/nursery, the vacant ladies bowling club, a brick residence (International House), and a brick and steel winged shelter.
The Gardens have a distinct landscape character of structural formal avenue plantings, open lawn areas, and pathway network connecting the surrounding neighbourhoods and internal facilities.
