
Coate Park and Rudder Grange are two small parks on a flood plain and woodland valley beside the Yarra River in Alphington. They were established in the heydays of boating and parties on the banks of the river, early in the 20th Century. The mature exotic trees and mowed lawn slopes that evidence this past contribute a specific cultural ambience that is valued by local users.
Council's prepared Masterplan for these two parks is a vision designed to bring back the lost ambience of the area by replacing the poisoned exotics with advanced trees, within contemporary, broader requirements for establishing a typical river valley and woodland ecosystem.

The Masterplan provides a framework for ongoing development of the parks primarily over the next three years and in a broader sense over the next ten years.
