Residents and local business can purchase worm farms and compost bins from Council at a reduced price, with an optional home delivery service.
More than half of household waste is made up of food and garden scraps. Using a worm farm and compost bin can help the environment by significantly reducing the amount of waste that goes to landfill.
Worm farming is when you feed fruit and vegetables scraps to special worms that eat about half of their body weight in a day. Composting is the break down of food scraps and garden waste in a container or heap, which produces a dark soil that can be used as fertiliser.
The worm farms are $87.50, and the compost bins are $42.50. Council also offers a home delivery service on Fridays, for the cost of $10.
Payment needs to be received before the items can be collected or delivered. Payment can be made in person by dropping into Richmond or Collingwood, and proof of residency will also be required.
