Water conservation showcase project

Council, with the support of the State Government has implemented various water conservation measures to a range of facilities across the municipality. These measures are designed to save more than 700 kilolitres of water per year.

Water saving measures implemented at each facility

Kevin Bartlett Reserve – Johnson Pavilion	Installation of water tanks to supply toilets
Kevin Bartlett Reserve – Graham Pavilion	Installation of water tank to supply the hot water system and toilets
Kevin Bartlett Reserve – Gillan Pavilion	Installation of water tanks to supply toilets
Kevin Bartlett Reserve - toilets	Installation of worm farm waste system connected to the septic tank - worm farm waste systems process sewerage and waste waters into an aerated odour free liquid that is then used to water the surrounding lawns
Alphington Bowling Club	Maintenance of existing rainwater tank and connection to toilets
Fitzroy Bowling Club	Installation of water tank connected to toilets Installation of waterless urinals in the club house.
Mark Street Hall	Installation of water tanks to supply toilets
Edinburgh Gardens Grandstand	Installation of underground water tank connected to filtering and treatment plant to supply the building with potable water

Interpretive signage appears at these facilities, explaining the water saving measures that have been implemented.

Council has developed a series of Sustainable Neighbourhood Walking Maps which highlight these water saving initiatives. Residents and local school groups can guide themselves between facilities and learn about real water saving measures, while enjoying some light exercise, the environment and Yarra’s open space.
