The former home of the Collingwood Football Club, Victoria Park has been transformed into a major community recreation space.

At least $7.2 million was spent on the redevelopment, with the Australian Government committing $3.5 million and Yarra Council spending at least $3.7 million on the redevelopment over several years. Here is a May 2010 media release about the project.

The revitalised ground was relaunched at a community event on Sunday 4 December 2011. Musician Mike Brady performed a song - How Australian's That! - which summed up the feeling of community at the event. Here are the lyrics to How Australian's That!

Essendon Football Club training at Victoria Park

Council has given the Essendon Football Club permission to train at Victoria Park in coming months.

The club is expected to train on the oval and use the Sherrin Stand change rooms from 7 November 2011 – 2 March 2012 inclusive. The club has permission to use the oval and change rooms each Monday, Wednesday and Friday, from 9am-12pm.

Under the Deed of Settlement reached several years ago between Council and the AFL, Victoria Park must be made available for some use by the AFL and/or its affiliates. As Essendon will be using the ground regularly, no other AFL team is expected to be given permission to train at Victoria Park this summer.

Council has asked the Essendon Football Club to ensure it is respectful of surrounding residents at all times.

Accessibility

Victoria Park is wheelchair accessible.
