Dog off-leash area proposed
Smith Reserve is to be trialled as a dog off-leash park following a petition from local residents.
At its meeting on 6 March 2012, Council resolved to make the park a dog off-leash area for a six month trial period.
The change in the park's status won't come into effect until formal advertisements are published in the Government Gazette and local newspapers. The advertising is expected to occur in late March/early April 2012.
After the park's status has changed, dogs will still be required to be on a leash when they are between five and 20 metres from the mulch area of the children's playground. Dogs are not allowed within five metres of the mulch area of any playground in Yarra.
In June last year, Council received a petition from about 20 residents requesting that the park be made a dog off-leash area. Council then sought wider community feedback on the proposal. Thirty-five of the 42 responses supported making the park a dog off-leash area.
Accessibility
Smith Reserve is wheelchair accessible.
