Victorian Charter of Human Rights & Responsibilities

The Victorian Human Rights Charter is an Act of Parliament that protects a set of rights of all people in Victoria. The rights cover four key principles:

• Freedom (such as freedom of movement and freedom of expression);
• Respect (such as protection of families and children, cultural rights);
• Equality (entitlement to participate in public life, recognition and equality before the law); and
• Dignity (such as protection of privacy and reputation).

The Charter places legal responsibilities on Local Government and other public authorities and Council is developing a comprehensive plan for how we respond in our day to day operations.
