Councillor Geoff Barbour

Councillor Geoff Barbour was elected after a count back conducted by the Victorian Electoral Commission on 18 February 2008. He was elected to take the place of Cr Annabel Barbara who resigned earlier in the year.

The count back was conducted at the VEC head office in Little Collins Street, taking less than one minute to identify Mr Barbour as Yarra’s new Langridge Ward Councillor.

Geoff has been a Yarra resident for more than 30 years and is a member of the Planning, Environment and Infrastructure Committee.

What do you hope to achieve as a Councillor?
 
I plan to work hard to ensure the Yarra community continues to welcome and attract all groups in society.

I want to focus on ensuring we do our bit to reduce our carbon impact and greenhouse gas emissions.

I am also committed to ensuring open and fair governance, where people feel confident to have their say and be heard, ensuring Councillors can make the most informed decisions in the best interests of the community.

What are your particular areas of interest?

I am passionate about maintaining a dynamic, liveable community, supporting the arts, local sport and music scene in Yarra and working to reduce our reliance on fossil fuels.

I have been very active in the local community through my local school council, the North Yarra Community Health Centre, and through the local Residents' Association. These groups have exposed me to many fine people, who give their time to the community. These people make Yarra more than just a group of suburbs. They are my inspiration.
