Council is committed to enhancing communication with the community and is seeking input on a range of Council policies, projects and activities. A Community Consultation Policy and Action Plan has been developed with a range of initiatives now underway to improve consultation.
Extensive research was conducted with the community and within Council's branches to establish where consultation improvements could be made and to explore new ways of consultation. In December 2005, a new Community Consultation Policy and Action Plan was adopted.
Yarra City Council has developed a draft Urban Design Framework (UDF) for the North Fitzroy Gasworks Precinct and is seeking feedback from the community.
An information session will be held on Wednesday 21 May from 6.30pm – 7.30pm at the Fitzroy Town Hall. Council encourages the Yarra community to come along and find out more.
The UDF covers the area bounded by Alexandra Parade, Queens Parade and Smith Street and is largely taken up by the former Gasworks site which is owned by the State Government. The UDF seeks to identify the objectives, principles and guidelines for any future development in the area.

In November 2007 Council resolved to commence a statutory process to consider the sale of land at 49 Tudor Street, Richmond, including community consultation on the sale of the land and design and development guidelines for the site.
This small parcel of land has been vacant for over 12 months and previously accommodated the Burnley Neighbourhood House and the Burnley Maternal and Child Health Centre. These services outgrew the small and run down buildings on the Tudor Street site, and have been relocated to Lord Street.
The buildings on the Tudor Street site are in poor condition and the land is not large enough to accommodate a new community hub or service. The site has therefore been deemed surplus to Council’s needs.
To ensure that any future development of the site is appropriate to the local area Council has prepared a set of design and development guidelines
to be attached to the site if sold.

Yarra City Council has endorsed a draft of the Yarra Libraries Strategic Plan
to guide the service over the next five years.
It was developed through a thorough community consultation process and identifies five priority areas for the service over the next five years. These areas are; services, community engagement, information and communication technology, people and culture, and finance and assets.
The draft Strategic Plan can be viewed online or in hard copy at the Richmond or Collingwood Town Halls, Yarra Libraries, and Yarra Leisure Centres.
