2010 Community Grants Program

Council’s Community Grants Program provides financial help and in-kind support for community initiatives and projects that address local needs, build local capacity, strengthen social diversity and enhance the wellbeing of residents in the City of Yarra.

Council received 240 applications for its 2010 Community Grants, which were assessed by Council officers, community panels and full Council.  

Council finalised the recipients of the 2010 Community Grants PDFat its November meeting, awarding $565,832 to 137 different community organisations. The Neighbourhood Justice Centre contributed $66,335 of this amount.

Council also secured external funding for many grant applications that were not successful with Council.

Council will hold a presentation ceremony for all grant recipients at the Richmond Town Hall on Thursday 28 January from 4 - 6pm.

What does the Grants Program Support?

The Annual Grants Program provides funding for small to medium sized projects, activities and events that respond to the social, cultural, recreational, environmental and economic needs of Yarra residents. 

Grants funding is provided under the following categories:

a) Arts and Culture
b) Environment
c) Community Development
d) Sport and Recreation
e) Youth Services
f) Community Justice.

Who was Eligible to Apply?

In order to apply for a Community Grant, applicants must:

Projects also must have a public outcome within the City of Yarra boundaries.

Organisations that are not incorporated are not eligible to apply. They need to find an incorporated organisation that is willing to auspice (sponsor) the application. This organisation will become the applicant. The auspicing group will need to sign the funding agreement with Council and will be responsible for managing the project.

Eligibility Criteria for Individuals

To be eligible for funding for individual Arts Development Sponsorship applicants must reside in and/or maintain a practice within the City of Yarra.

Reports and Acquittals

Acquittal Report Form:
If your group or organisation received Yarra Council funding for the 2008 or 2009 Community Grants Program, you are required to submit an acquittal report form after your project is completed. You will need to submit an acquittal form for all previous grants received from Yarra Council before any further funding can be paid. If you are unsure about your organisation or group’s acquittal of previous Yarra Council grants, please contact the Community Planner – Grants on 9205 5555.
