Community Partnerships – Memoranda of Understanding
Yarra Council is privileged to be able to build partnerships that offer mutual benefits for all parties that have a shared commitment to the community. Such partnerships reflect the good will and expertise within the Yarra business, educational and health community that share Council's aim to create better outcomes for visitors and residents.
In order to recognise the importance of these businesses and institutions, Council has embarked on a process of developing Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with organisations that identify shared interests and strategic directions. They aim to create a platform whereby the strengths of various organisations are linked to Council’s strategic vision in a range of areas. For example, these partnerships can assist with place-making and planning of various precincts, create opportunities for cross-organisational professional development, and improve environmental sustainability practices to reduce Yarra’s overall carbon footprint.
Council’s first MoU has been with the Australian Catholic University. This MoU, signed on 19 June 2015, recognises the ACU as a key strategic driver of place-making on the Victoria Parade/Brunswick Street corner as well as a teaching and research leader with a strong social justice ethos.
The second with the Melbourne and Olympic Parks Trust (MOPT), was signed on 6 November. This MoU was established to enhance the connectivity between the MOPT site, improve way-finding, pedestrian and traffic flows and share data to assist with the monitoring of the amenity of the local area.
Council is in the process of developing further MoUs over the coming year. It greatly values these strategic relationships and looks forward to updating the community on the outcomes of these Community Partnerships for Yarra residents and visitors.
