Outdoor gas heaters
On Tuesday 7 June, Council cancelled a fee that was going to be imposed on traders for the use of heaters in footpath dining areas.
Here is a media release about Council's decision.
Council wrote to affected traders in June to inform them that it would not go ahead with the fee.
Background
The $105 flat annual fee per business was aimed at discouraging the use of outdoor heaters.
Outdoor heaters use up a lot of energy and don't help community efforts to reduce greenhouse gases.
Electric heaters running on 100% Greenpower would have been exempt from the fee.
The City of Port Phillip charges a $105 fee for the use of outdoor heaters, so Yarra Council's fee would have been consistent with that charged in a nearby municipality.
