Gleadell Street
Every Saturday, Richmond's Gleadell Street is transformed into a bustling fresh food market, overflowing with seasonal fruits and vegetables, fresh bread, herbs, flowers and other gourmet delights.
The original Richmond market opened in 1873 and the tradition of enthusiastic stallholders arriving as early as 2am to set up their stalls continues today.
Why not come along, enjoy the friendly service and sample some of Melbourne's freshest produce? The market operates 7am to 1pm every Saturday except Easter Saturday, Anzac Day (if it falls on a Saturday) and two Saturdays over the Christmas period.
Plastic Bag-Free
The market is environmentally friendly so market-goers should remember to bring a reusable shopping bag to carry their purchased items in. For further information about the market's plastic bags policy, please see this media release.
Free Community Stall
Council supports a free market stall for local Yarra community groups and not-for-profit organisations to promote their activities or raise funds by selling sell their arts and crafts.
Community or school groups are welcome to apply to use the stall.
To find out how you can apply to use the stall, go to the community markety stall page and complete the application form.

Stallholder Information
The market is owned and operated by Council and convenes a stallholders’ working group quarterly, to which all stallholders are invited.
Stallholders and those interested in establishing a stall at the weekly Saturday market are advised to read the following procedures and protocols. They provide important information about the management and operation of the Gleadell Street Market.

Stallholders tend to stay for many years, and there are no casual stalls, so the turnover is very low. Occasionally there are temporary vacancies of a month or longer, which give someone on the waiting list the opportunity to experience the market.
You are welcome to apply for a stall but please be aware that there is a lengthy waiting list (usually between 20 and 30 people) for a market stall. If you would like to be registered on the waiting list please complete the application below and return it to info@yarracity.vic.gov.au.
